The athletes (or teams) that the first, second or third
anyhow receive medals. The winners receive "golden
medals". (Although they were solid gold until 1912,
they now have been made of gilded silver.) The runners-plain
fizzy drinks receive silver medals, and the third places
athletes bronze medals. In some events fought by a single-eliminatie
tournament (with name box), the third place cannot be
determined, in which cases the both half final losers
receive bronze medals. The practice of the award of
medals by the top three competitors was imported in
1904, during the Olympic Games by 1896 only the first
two goods received a medal, silver and bronze, while
various prices distributed became in 1900. However,
the Olympic Games in 1904 also rewarded with silver
trofeeën for the first place, through which Athens
1906 the first games that rewarded with the three medals
only. Moreover, from 1948 onward athletes bring fourth,
fifth and sixth have receive certificaten that became
officially known as the "victories diplomas;"
since 1976 the medal winners have receive these also,
and in 1984 the victories diplomas for the seventh-and
achtste-place finish Had Been Added, presumably for
it to see to that all losses of a quarter-finalisten
in events with single-eliminatie sizes would receive
diplomas, thus the taking away of the Official, "classification")
comes to the same thing with a fifth to fix via an achtste
place (although interesting these last still Fought
in many events eliminatie really). Certificaten were
allowed also by the Olympic Games by 1896, but there
had been awarded next to the medals on the first and
second place. Gedenkpenningen medals and diplomas -
that differences in the design of the up here meant
- also available have been stolen at participants finishing
off lower than respective a third and achtste. During
the Olympic summer game 2004 in Athens, the first three
got wreaths just as their medals.
Because the Olympic Games are held, only once in the
four year, the public and athletes sleepiness consider
as more important and more valuable than world championships
and other international tournaments, that often annually
held. Many sporters became fames or heroes in their
own country, or even the entire world, after always
Olympic champions.
The diversity of the sport, and the large differences
between the Olympic Games in 1896 and today the day
make the with difficulty to decide which sporter is
the most successful Olympic sporter aller times. This
becomes yet more intricately because the IOC not longer
recognizes the Intercalated Games that they originally
organized. By the measuring of the number of titles
won on the modern Olympic Games, the next athletes can
be considered as the most successful.
